About Semergytech
Semergytech's mission is to provide innovative, disruptive photonic and electronic components built on nanophotonic technologies. Our first focus is the photonic crystal surface-emitting laser (PCSEL), a semiconductor laser that emits a narrow, single-mode beam from a large area.
Where we come from
The company grew out of years of research in the Zhou group at the University of Texas at Arlington, together with collaborators at Stanford University and elsewhere. That work produced our core expertise and IP in semiconductor lasers, modulators and photonic crystal cavities, on silicon and on other rigid or flexible substrates.
What we do today
We sample PCSEL chips to customers evaluating them for LiDAR, free-space communications, sensing and other applications. We also build PCSELSim, a modeling and simulation tool that brings PCSEL design into one platform and estimates how a device will perform before it is fabricated.
We are an early-stage startup based in Arlington, Texas, in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, and we are hiring design engineers and process and fabrication engineers to take PCSELs from research devices to products.
